For ALUM & FRIENDS: Sign up to receive streaming video of Couillard Lecture
The 2009 Couillard Lectures will be given by Shane Claiborne, a founding member of the Simple Way community in Philadephia and author of The Irresistible Revolution: Living as an Ordinary Radical. His lectures will explore what the Gospel has to say to our fragile world and look at some models of community and outreach that can help us to find healing for ourselves, our neighbors, our world. He will help us re-imagine the biblical vision of Jubilee redistribution and internalize the responsibility that comes with being born into this human family. To attend the Couillard Lectures in person on Friday, November 6th in Prosser Auditorium, please register online.

A special offer for Alumni and Friends: If you are unable to attend the lectures and would like to join Shane's lecture via streaming video on your computer, please contact Kimberly Holmes to register for a password.

Seminary Trustee Chair tapped for Obama Cabinet
A former US Attorney for the District of Columbia, Wilma Lewis has served as a Seminary Trustee since 2005 and as its Chair since 2007. In August the US Senate confirmed her nomination to serve as Assistant Secretary for Land and Minerals Management of the Department of the Interior. In this new position she is responsible for overseeing the management of public lands and resources, including production of federal energy and mineral resources, both onshore and on the Outer Continental Shelf. A focus of the office is balancing the nation’s need for clean affordable energy, minerals, and other public land resources with a strong program of stewardship and environmental protection while achieving value for American taxpayers.  For more about Wilma and her new responsibilities as Assistant Secretary for Land and Minerals Management click here.

November 14 Open House Day — YOU are our best recruiters!
Graduates and friends are our best source of introducing new students to the Seminary. Two separate Open Houses will be held on Saturday November 14th for our degree and nondegree academic programs.

Degree Programs 10am-noon: All prospective students interested in hearing more about our master's degree programs and the Graduate Certificate in Formative Spirituality can attend the morning Open House in the Saal. This is an excellent opportunity to talk to faculty members and students and hear more about our specific graduate programs. Click here for more info or to register online for the November 14 (10-noon) Open House.

CROSSROADS 1-2pm: Our new lay leadership training program got off to a great start this fall! The afternoon Open House (1-2pm) will focus on the CROSSROADS program — which is designed for lay people, church staff, and congregational leaders and provides quality theological education through 16 CEU-granting courses and a 40-hour Community Missional Experience. Students can sign up for the entire program or just take the courses they are interested in. To find out more about CROSSROADS or to sign up for the November 10 (1-2pm) Open House click here.

CROSSROADS courses to be offered in the Winter Term (Jan-Feb): Unpacking Scripture-Discipleship, Traditions, Missional Leadership, and Unpacking Scripture-Teaching.

Kay Ward publishes third book in series
Moravian Church Bishop Kay Ward, who served as MTS administrator and faculty member from 1990-2005, has written her third book for a series for the Moravian Church. Like her earlier books of thoughtful stories, Hoping for Spring is a compilation of delightful essays that speak to discovery, a love of writing, reliving of memories, and weaving God through everyday life. Each chapter includes a story from the Bible and several short essays related to the months of the year with recipes sprinkled throughout. Hoping for Spring is due to be released in November and will be available through the Interprovincial Board of Publications of the Moravian Church for $14.95. Bishop Ward will be holding a book signing on December 5th at the Moravian Book Shop located at 428 Main Street, Bethlehem.

Looking for your 2010 pocket calendar?
Two years ago the Seminary stopped sending pocket calendars to all of our Alumni and Friends because we were told by many of you that your electronic calendars had taken the place of your small paper planner. We still order a small supply of pocket calendars each year and would be happy to send you one. Please contact Pam Weiss if you would like to receive a 2010 Pocket Calendar.

We trust you received your note from the Dean and gift of a magnet with the picture of the Moravian Seal stained glass from Borhek Chapel. Please let Pam know if you didn't receive it!
