Prerequisite: SEBO 603
Why did Ezekiel eat the scroll, didn’t he have any bread? And why was Jeremiah
thrown in a ditch?! This course will examine two “major prophets,” Jeremiah
and Ezekiel, focusing on their messages, rhetoric, and relevance for their ancient
audiences and for today’s church. Attention will be given to the historical
situation, the literary form, and the canonical shape of each prophet. Since
the Hebrew prophets have provided a strong link between Judaism and Christianity,
discussions will also include how early Christians interpreted their messages.
Elective, 2 credits
