BIBLICAL STUDIES
Old Testament/Hebrew Bible Courses

SEBO 942 The Hebrew Bible and Culture
Prerequisite: SEGS 501

For centuries the Hebrew Bible has provided inspiration for painters, writers, musicians, and Hollywood. How well do these cultural reflections mirror what is present in the biblical text? Moreover, how have these cultural reflections influenced our present day understanding of the Hebrew Bible? These (and other) questions will be explored in this course by studying both biblical texts and their cultural representations. Be prepared to spend at least one Saturday in New York City at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and a Broadway production.
