This course focuses on the importance of legal, ethical, and professional issues that form the basis for a code of ethics that protects the welfare of their clients. This code is not only the Code of Ethics of a professional association or Licensure Act, but a code by which professionals practice and hold themselves out to the public. Professional roles and responsibilities will be discussed. Students will be required to discuss legal, ethical, and professional issues with practicing therapists and counselors, and to discuss local and state laws regarding the practice of therapy and counseling.
