The Master of Arts in Pastoral Counseling program (MAPC) seeks to integrate the spiritual and theological understanding of humanity with the practice of counseling and psychotherapy.
With the goal of ministering to the whole person, the program offers a rich combination of biblical tradition, theological understanding, faith development, family systems theory, counseling practices, and clinical experience.
The MAPC degree is appropriate for counseling professionals who wish to integrate a holistic perspective into their work, for lay persons who wish to provide counseling in a parish or agency setting, and for clergy who wish to further develop their pastoral care and counseling ministry.
The MAPC degree requires a total of 62 credits and can be completed in two years of intensive, full-time study. The degree must be completed within six years.
The program is designed to meet the academic requirements in Pennsylvania for Licensed Professional Counselors (LPC). Graduates seeking state licensure must complete 3600 additional hours of supervised clinical work and pass a state-required exam, most typically the National Counselor Exam offered by the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC).
