Degree and Graduate Certificate Students are committed to a plan of study to complete the program requirements within the appropriate period of time:
• Master of Divinity (MDiv), 3-6 years
• Master of Arts in Pastoral Counseling (MAPC), 2-6 years
• Master of Arts in Theological Studies (MATS), 2-6 years
• Graduate Certificate in Formative Spirituality (Grad Certificate), 2-6 years
Requirements for Admission
Admission to a degree or graduate certificate program is based upon academic record, written letters of recommendation, and the applicant’s ability to communicate and reflect theologically in the admissions essay. To apply for candidacy, the following are required:
1. Online Application and $35 Application Fee (checks payable to “Moravian Theological Seminary”)
2. Official academic transcripts from all schools attended beyond high school. An applicant is expected to hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university. An undergraduate cumulative grade point average of 2.5 is considered minimum for entry into the Seminary.
3. Autobiographical essay articulating your faith journey and goals (included in the online application).
4. MDiv Candidates Only: Statement from a denomination/judicatory official describing the candidate's status in the ordination candicacy process. MDiv candidates who have no formal relationship with a denomination should submit a statement outlining their intentions in this matter.
5. Letters of recommendation [PDF] from 3 individuals.
6. Candidates for the Graduate Certificate in Formative Spirituality are required to have an interview with the Formative Spirituality Team.
When all required materials are received, applications are reviewed by the Admissions and Standing Committee which is made up of representatives of the faculty and administration. Applications are reviewed and applicants are informed of the committee’s decision within three weeks. Applicants who have been accepted for admission are required to make a $50 deposit within one month of notification of acceptance. This deposit will be credited to the student’s account.
