2010 Alumni Reunion Update

One hundred alumni, family members, faculty and staff attended the 2010 Alumni Reunion on March 11th. The reunion luncheon was a perfect opportunity for alumni to catch up with each other, celebrate the accomplishments of fellow classmates and recognize graduating seniors.

Special recognition was given to alumni who were celebrating their 50+ graduation anniversaries. In attendance from the 50 year class were Gwyned Williams ’60 and Richard E. Wright ’60.

The current seniors at the Seminary were welcomed as new alumni and the 2010-13 members of the Alumni Board of Governors were elected. Joining the Board of Governors for a 3-year term will be Gregory Ellis ’07, Carol Foltz ’78 and Martha Griffis ‘06. Elected to finish off an unexpired term through 2011 are Robert Sawyer ’67 and Cynthia Rader Geyer ’97. Bruce Bowen ’01, ’03 was elected to serve as president in 2010-11, as current president Derek French ’95 finishes his term. Katie Van Der Linden '06 remains in her current position as vice president, and Dean Jurgen will serve as secretary.

Highlighting the Alumni Reunion Luncheon was the presentation of the two Alumni Recognition Awards. Each recipient was nominated by their fellow graduates for their distinguished ministries.

Rev. Kenneth Daniel '89 was honored with the 2010 Bishop Kortz Award in Pastoral Counseling for his outstanding and faithful service as pastor, counselor, teacher and administrator. He currently serves as Executive Director of Ingleside at Rock Creek retirement Community in Washington, DC. Ken served as a pastor in Reading, PA before receiving his MAPC from Moravian Seminary in 1989. For the next 19 years, he served at Phoebe Ministries in a number of capacities, helping to develop the CPE program and expand the use of counseling services for residents of nursing care, assisted living, and affordable housing properties. Ken was instrumental in establishing the award in 2003, so it is especially appropriate that he was chosen as this year’s recipient.

The recipient of the 2010 John Hus Award was the Rt. Rev. Douglas H. Kleintop '75, honored not only for his 35 years of service as a pastor of the Moravian Church, but also for his outstanding leadership that enabled many to follow in his footsteps. Doug currently serves as pastor of Palmer Township Moravian Church. He has also provided extensive leadership as an assistant in the Supervised Ministry program for the last two decades, serving as a personal supervisor for twenty-five Moravian Seminary students and 9 deacons of the Moravian Church. Doug serves on a variety of community and church boards and, in recognition of his pastoral gifts, was consecrated a Bishop of the Moravian Church in 2002.

The 2010 Alumni Reunion Luncheon is scheduled for Thursday, March 10, 2011. Please don't miss it. Your classmates look forward to catching up with you!
