Scholars have long known about forgeries from the early Christians church – books that claim to be written by people who did not, in fact, write them. And so we have Gospels that claim to be written by Peter, Philip, Thomas, and Mary; Epistles by Barnabas and Paul (outside the New Testament) and the Roman philosopher Seneca; Apocalypses allegedly written by Peter, and Paul, and Isaiah.

Is it possible that any of the books that falsely claim to be written by the apostles made it into the New Testament? Is it possible that the Gospels were not written by Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John? That Paul did not write some of the letters that go under his name? That Peter did not write either of the ones that go under his? This lecture will consider the possibility of whether there might be forgeries within the pages of the New Testament.
