These are challenging and exciting times for faith communities, and for those who lead them. Are religious leaders called to be CEO’s or networkers, teachers or community organizers, theological experts or fellow spiritual seekers – or some combination of all of these, and more? Using segments from the PBS series “The Calling,” we will explore questions having to do with recognizing and discerning one’s call to lead, whether as a member of the clergy or as a lay member of a faith community, and of living it out in the practical realities of personal, family, and congregational life. These sessions will be co-facilitated by Deborah Appler, PhD, United Methodist pastor and Professor of Hebrew Bible at MTS, Steve Simmons, PhD, Presbyterian pastor and Coordinator of Vocational Development at MTS, and Walter Wagner, PhD, Lutheran pastor, adjunct faculty member at MTS and Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia.
