CREATIVE WORSHIP

Join us to explore new ways of worship!
There will be one Saturday night field trip, scheduled for March 27. Contact Jill Peters for more information or find out the first night of class.
Several options for assignments will be given the first night including the option of visiting particular Sunday morning worship events locally. If you are able to set aside one or two Sunday mornings, we encourage you to do this. Alternate assignments will be available for those who are already booked on Sundays. We are very excited to bring in several instructors for this course all of whom are experienced in different forms of worship.

Seven different guest lecturers will present on their topics of expertise including Spirituality and the Care Giving Relationship, Community Resources, Ministry with Older Adults, Death & Dying, Dealing with Life’s Losses, Homelessness, Poverty and the Mental Health Population, and Gambling & Addictions. This course is a lay approach to understanding pastoral care and counseling issues.

CULTURE, CHANGE, CONFLICT & COMMUNICATION

What is the positive role of conflict in the church and how do we use it for positive effects? This course explores four key organizational issues and their ministry impact while building practical skills.

UNPACKING SCRIPTURE III – Preaching
March 13 – 27, April 10 – May 8 (8 Saturdays)

Not sure how to put together a talk or sermon? Want to improve your skills in getting a message across? This course will go through the fundamentals of preparing, building and presenting a sermon. Participants will be able to deliver a message and will be taped and critiqued in an affirming atmosphere. Different preaching styles and traditions will be explored.
The Rev. Dr. Sue Pizor Yoder, DMin, is founding pastor of The Barn, a faith community in Allentown. Sue received her MDiv and DMin from Pittsburgh Theological Seminary and completed the Homiletic Supervisor Program through Louisville Theological Seminary. She’s served at FPC Allentown, FPC Bethlehem, and Liberty Corner PC (Liberty Corner, NJ).
