Unpacking the Scriptures III—Preaching

MINISTRY JOURNEYS OF THE NEW TESTAMENT
January 9 – February 27 (Monday nights)

Cost: $200
Follow the lives and travels of Jesus, Paul and the Apostles. Learn about the New Testament in new ways that will bring depth and broaden your understanding of many familiar stories. (While it is helpful to take this course right after the Old Testament course, it is not required. Don’t hesitate to jump in with the New Testament.)
Rev. Dr. Walter Wagner Once again Walter leads us in an exploration of the New Testament. A widely popular instructor, Walter has taught at many seminaries and is a prolific author. This course is best described as challenging fun with great take-away value.
Text: In addition to the Old Testament course text (Holy Bible, HarperCollins NRSV with Apocrypha and Deuterocanonical Books), our text is Writings of the New Testament: An Interpretation by Luke Timothy Johnson, Fortress Press

UNPACKING THE SCRIPTURES III—PREACHING
January 21-March 10(Saturday mornings)

What is preaching and why do we do it? This course gives us practical experience in putting together thoughts for presenting in a sermon context. For those who need some help with public speaking and forming ideas, this course is for you. In addition to shaping the sermon, some topics covered include communication theory and Generational Phenomena. (Note: This course is titled Unpacking the Scriptures III but it is not necessary to have taken I and II before this one. These course can be taken in any order.)
