Why has Darwinian evolution been so disturbing to many people of faith? Why are some prominent evolutionists outspoken atheists? What responses can theology make to their impassioned claims that Darwin has destroyed any plausible belief in divine providence? Is a Christian theology of evolution possible? What is Intelligent Design, what are its claims regarding evolution, and how well does it hold up either scientifically and theologically? Dr. John Haught, one of our leading thinkers on the interface between science and religion, will explore these questions in this commemoration of the 150th anniversary of Charles Darwin’s On the Origin of Species.

This event is co-sponsored with the Moravian College Arts and Lectures Committee, departments of Religion and Philosophy, and Lehigh Valley Association of Independent Colleges.

John F. Haught,, PhD, is Senior Fellow, Science and Religion, and Distinguished Research Professor at Georgetown University.  He is the author of 17 books, including, most recently, God and the New Atheism: A Critical Response to Dawkins, Harris, and Hitchens (2008), Christianity and Science (2007), and Is Nature Enough: Meaning and Truth in the Age of Science  (2006).
