As health care facilities nationwide see increasingly diverse patient populations, with a vast array of religious traditions, there is a critical need for professionals to understand the most common religio-cultural factors that impact the delivery of care and affect how their patients are making decisions.

This intensive training session, based on the Medical Manual for Religio-Cultural Competence recently published by the Tanenbaum Center for Interreligious Understanding, will provide professionals with the tools they need to recognize and address cultural beliefs and religious practices, from intake to compliance, in order to more effectively and respectfully meet patients’ religious needs.

Through personal reflection, small group work, and case studies, participants will have the opportunity to begin basic skills-building work around religio-cultural competency, and explore ways to more effectively integrate pastoral care counselors into the treatment team.

Joyce Dubensky, JD, CEO of The Tanenbaum Center for Interreligious Understanding, which has recently published the pioneering Medical Manual for Religio-Cultural Competence: Caring for Religiously Diverse Populations
