The Counseling Center provides individual, couple, and group counseling (not available at all times) to undergraduate students enrolled in the day division program. Students experiencing personal difficulty, interested in gaining increased self-knowledge, or wanting to develop more efficient coping skills are encouraged to contact the Counseling Center. Three counselors, including one licensed psychologist and one licensed professional counselor, are on the staff, which also may include interns from graduate programs in counseling. All counseling sessions are confidential.
Counseling Center staff members will refer a student to off-campus professionals when it is perceived that this is necessary in order to meet his/her needs. It may be, for example, that the student requires more frequent, extended, or continuous services or requires the support of a professional with a particular expertise. Decisions of this nature are made on a case-by-case basis. In most cases, the Counseling Center continues to work with the student until he or she has had a reasonable amount of time to establish a relationship with a private counselor.
