The MAPC program at Moravian Seminary is designed to meet the academic requirements in Pennsylvania for Licensed Professional Counselors (LPC). These academic requirements are outlined in PA Act 49.2.
MAPC curriculum requirements and course syllabi are reviewed frequently so that recommended coursework meets licensure eligibility requirements. Students in the MAPC program meet with their advisor at least once a semester to review academic progress in meeting MAPC program requirements and LPC requirements. Students interested in LPC licensure should maintain a file of all course syllabi and supervised clinical hours to provide to the Licensure Board when applying for licensure.
As with all other master programs in counseling, an additional 3600 hours of supervised clinical work is required for LPC licensure in Pennsylvania and must be obtained following graduation.
The counseling supervision, clinical placement, and coursework satisfies a portion of the requirements for membership and certification in professional organizations such as the American Association of Pastoral Counselors (AAPC) or the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (AAMFT). Students seeking endorsement in the AAPC are encouraged to apply for Student Member status during their program.
Students are encouraged to research the requirements for obtaining licensing and certification from the respective state and professional organizations. Application for membership in these organizations is the responsibility of the student.
