The annual Pastoral Counseling Clinical Placement and Job Fair was held on Friday, March 14, 2008. MAPC students and alumni were invited to attend an extended lunch hour with representatives from local agencies. Following the luncheon, Marcella Kraybill-Greggo, Clinical Director at MTS, introduced the agencies and each representative was given a chance to explain their agency’s mission and clientele.
A comment that reiterated several times throughout the introductions was the role of the pastoral counselor in each environment — while many speculated that their agency was secular and worked with people of a variety of faiths, it was noted that for individuals who were struggling with faith and searching for answers, pastoral counselors’ training allowed them to effectively work with these clients.
Of the twelve agencies that were present, the counseling settings included hospice care, domestic violence, addictions, college counseling, and children and youth. Representatives spoke individually with students and alumni and answered questions regarding payscale and available positions and internships.
After another successful MAPC event, one thing is for certain — as each MAPC student looks toward his or her graduation, the possibilities are quite promising.
