During the five-month period between the departure of Chaplain Dave Bennett ‘88 and the arrival of Hopeton Clennon, the pastoral needs of Moravian College and Theological Seminary were met by four members of the Seminary community. Each of these individuals accepted specific areas of the Chaplain’s responsibilities and, in addition to their full-time studies, full-time teaching, and part-time jobs, they attended to the worship and pastoral care needs of the College and Seminary.
The worship and campus fellowship responsibilities at the College were met by senior Christie Melby-Gibbons and her husband David. They planned and led the weekly Sunday evening chapel service and the Wednesday night Catacombs experience, which included music, discussion, prayer, and biblical reflection. They also served as advisors to the very active Christian Fellowship group.
MAPC student Jennifer Perreault attended to the pastoral care needs at the College which included providing pastoral care during times of crisis and providing counseling for undergraduates who sought it out through the Chaplain’s Office. Her work was very well received and led to a Clinical Placement internship during the Spring 2009 semester in the College Counseling Center.
Glen Stoudt ‘77, assistant professor of Pastoral Theology, served as the Interim Chaplain at the Seminary, coordinating weekly Chapel and Eucharist services, working with the Spiritual Life Committee and providing pastoral care to members of the Seminary community.
The community recognized the excellent care, service and leadership of the Interim Campus Chaplains, Christie and David, Jennifer, and Glen, at the Spring 2009 Opening Convocation.
