Her article is a literary commentary on the book, Bread for the Journey, by Henri Nouwen. As an American Academy of Religion committee member of the “Status of Racial Ethnic Minorities in the Profession” (REM), Kim attended its annual business meeting in Atlanta in February 2008. She is an active member at the Korean Church of the Lehigh Valley (PC USA) and continues to preach weekly during the Youth Service.

He was also the guest preacher for the first annual joint Sunday morning service of the Nazareth Area Churches during their Week of Prayer for Christian Unity celebrations.

Dean Frank Crouch led a series of Bible studies during plenary sessions of the Western District Synod in March 2008, working with passages chosen by congregations and delegates in a pre-synod planning process. He also accompanied Dave Wickmann ‘67, PEC President, and Gary Straughan ‘66, Eastern District President, as Moravian representatives at an Ecumenical Prayer Service led by Pope Benedict in New York City. He was also granted a three-month sabbatical leave that extended from May 18 through August 18.

Glenn Asquith, professor of Pastoral Theology, has been named Director of the MAPC program. In this capacity he oversees the administrative tasks of coordinating the MAPC curriculum, maintaining licensure standards, recruiting and supervising adjunct faculty, and advising MAPC students. His review of Human Development and Faith: Life-Cycle Stages of Body, Mind, and Soul, edited by Felicity B. Kelcourse appeared in the Spring 2008 issue of The Journal of Pastoral Theology.

The recent activities of Otto Dreydoppel Jr., assistant professor of the Moravian History, have included work on the Moravian-Episcopal Dialogue team, participation in the Moravian Church Eastern District Synod, and a trip to the Czech Republic.

Deborah Appler, assistant professor of Old Testament, was the keynote speaker for a conference on “Sexual Identity and Spirituality” sponsored by the UCC, MCC, UMC, and other churches in Oklahoma City on March 7-9th. She co-authored eleven lectionary resources for Out in Scripture for the Human Rights Campaign. She presented lectures at several area churches, including one on “Justice in the Old Testament” at Holy Spirit ELCA Church in Emmaus and on “Jerusalem” at Jerusalem West Salisbury in Allentown. An active volunteer with CUNA, she continues to tutor a refugee family in English on a regular basis. She worked with the Bethlehem community and the rally against racism that took place in May at the Bethlehem School District office.

Assistant professor of New Testament, Jean Kim, was granted a leave of absence during the 2007-08 academic year to pursue independent research interests. Regretfully, she has resigned effective August 31, 2008. She plans to teach in a faculty position in South Korea. The Seminary will conduct a national search for a professor of New Testament in fall 2008.
