In June 2007, Robert Sawyer ’67 retired from active service in the Moravian Church. During his 40 years of ministry he served congregations in New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland and North Carolina; as president of the Provincial Elder’s Conference, Southern Province; as president of the Unity Board; and as Chaplain of Salem Academy and College. He now serves as Executive Director of Pilgrims of Ibillin, an organization in the US that supports schools in Galilee founded by Father Elias Chacour.
After 40 years of ministry in the Moravian Church to congregations in Pennsylvania, New York and Maryland, Stephen Nicholas ‘67 retired from active service in August 2007.
In January 2007, Sherwin Alleyne ‘81 retired from the active ministry of the Moravian Church after 38 years of service to congregations in New York, Michigan, Jamaica, Guyana and the East West Indies province.
Harvey Prochnau ‘69 retired from active call in the Moravian Church in June 2007. During his 38 year ministry he served Moravian congregations in Guyana, Wisconsin, North Dakota and Michigan; and also served under call to the United Methodist Church.
In April 2007, Tim Byerly ‘78 was installed at the Mayodan Moravian Church in Mayodan, North Carolina.
William Andrews ‘82 began serving the St. Paul’s Moravian Church in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, in January 2008.
Cory Kemp ‘83 recently published, You Don’t See Many Chickens in Clearance: Essays on Faith and Living. The book is designed for devotional use or small group study and is available online at Amazon, Waldenbooks and Barnes and Noble. Cory founded Creating Women Ministries (Cincinnati, Ohio) in 2004 to help bring authentic, meaningful faith into women’s daily lives through coaching, workshops, and seminars.
Reed Acheson ‘86 began serving the Vanderbilt Avenue Moravian Church on Staten Island, New York, as part-time interim pastor in January 2007.
Carol Vogler ‘86 accepted an appointment to serve as full-time interim pastor of Rio Terrace Moravian Church in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, in August 2007.
In March 2007, Mark Breland ‘89 accepted a call to serve in team ministry at Lititz Moravian Church in Lititz, Pennsylvania.
In September 2007, Beth Macha ‘91 began serving as the interim supply pastor for Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Appleton, Wisconsin.
In January 2007, Bruce Nelson ‘91 was installed as pastor of Lake Mills Moravian Church in Lake Mills, Wisconsin.
Lorraine Sell ‘97 began her pastorate at St. James United Church of Christ in Allentown, Pennsylvania, on January 1, 2008.
In August 2007, Chris New ‘99 began serving as a new church planter of The Journey Community in Mississauga, Ontario.
In January 2008, Tracy Pryor ‘99 was installed as pastor of the Covenant Moravian Church in Wilmington, North Carolina.
Keith Harke ‘99 began a six month appointment to serve as the International Interim Pastor of Bruderheim Moravian Church in Alberta, Canada, in October 2007.
Mary Bielke ‘00 accepted the call to serve as interim associate pastor of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in LaCrosse, Wisconsin in November 2007.
In May 2007, Bruce Bowen ‘01, ‘03 began working at the Malvern Institute as the manager of three new counseling centers in Pottstown, Reading and Pottsville.
Marian Boyle ‘02 was installed as a pastor at the West Side Moravian Church in Green Bay, Wisconsin in May 2007.
In February 2008, Greg Krausz ‘02 became the Director of Addiction Treatment Programs for Mid-Atlantic Rehabilitation Services. His responsibilities will include initiating an intensive outpatient treatment program in Pennsylvania and New Jersey for adults with addictions and/or co-occuring disorders.
Charles Otto ‘03 was ordained into the ministry of the United Methodist Church on June 2, 2007.
In July 2007, Kelly Howard ‘05 began working as Associate Chaplain at Good Shepherd rehabilitation center in Allentown.
In February 2008, Martha Griffis ‘06 was hired to serve in the newly created, part-time position, as Pastoral Care Coordinator at Kirkland Village, the Presbyterian retirement community in Bethlehem.
Nicole Melara ‘06 was ordained into the Presbyterian ministry in December, 2007 and is serving the First Presbyterian Church of Williamstown, New Jersey (17 miles outside of Philadelphia). She also serves as an adjunct faculty member at Northampton Area Community College in Bethlehem teaching courses in philosophy.
In December 2007, Deborah Schwartz ‘06 was ordained into the UCC ministry, she serves as pastor of Trinity UCC in Leesport, Pa.
