Moravian Seminary Professor
Glen Stoudt to Pursue Parish Ministry

Effective December 31, the Rev. Dr. Glen Stoudt '77 will leave his position as Assistant Professor of Pastoral Theology and return to parish ministry.  He will be installed in February as the pastor of Orleans United Church, a United Church of Canada congregation in Ottawa, Ontario.

Since his Moravian College days when he served as the assistant to Chaplain Robert Woosley, Glen dreamed of teaching on the faculty at Moravian Seminary.  His dream came true in 2004 when he was appointed Assistant Professor of Pastoral Theology following the retirement of Willard Harstine. In his five and a half year tenure, Glen left his mark on the curriculum and students while serving at MTS. He restructured the process and timing for Supervised Ministry, the student intern experience in area congregations.  He created new courses, Rhythms of the Church Year, Preparing Laity for Discipleship, and developed intensive Jan Term courses in Stewardship and evangelism. He also added to his responsibilities last year by serving as interim Seminary Chaplain during the fall 2008 semester while the campus awaited the arrival of newly-appointed Chaplain Hopeton Clennon.

Born, raised and ordained in the Moravian Church, Glen has pastored Moravian congregations in Pennsylvania and Alberta, Canada from 1977 to 2004. He served nine years as a Minister of Word and Sacrament in the United Church of Canada in Ottawa before accepting the faculty position at the Seminary in 2004.

Glen had always intended to return to parish ministry after his faculty experience and states that “he has been truly blessed by his years with the faculty and students at MTS and is energized to use the skills and insights he’s gained here in both teaching and learning in this new chapter in ministry.”

In honor of Glen's service to Moravian Seminary, a reception was held on Wednesday, December 9. Dozens of students, faculty and staff, alumni and friends, church members, and members of Glen's family were in attendance. The faculty and staff presented Glen with a captain's chair engraved with the seal of the Seminary. The Student Executive Committee honored him with a Moravian star. The Seminary community also created a memory book for him which included memories, anecdotes, photographs, and well wishes for Glen.

Glen, we wish you well as you continue your call to serve the church!
