The Rev. Dr. C. Riddick Weber was appointed as Assistant Professor of Pastoral Ministry at Moravian Theological Seminary on December 14, 2009. He will fill the position most recently held by the Rev. Dr. Glen Stoudt, who will be returning to parish ministry in Ottawa, Ontario, in February.
Dr. Weber holds a BA from UNC–Chapel Hill and an MDiv from Duke Divinity School. He earned a PhD in Religious Studies from the University of Virginia in May, 2009, where his dissertation addressed the interplay between theology and community life in Moravian congregations in North Carolina from 1753 to 1818. In particular, he examined how theological beliefs and social constructs of race and gender found expression in the worship and community practices of those congregations.
Ordained in the Moravian Church, he currently serves as the pastor of Fairview Moravian Church in Winston-Salem, NC, a position he has held since 2002. For the past two years he has taught undergraduates at Salem College (Winston-Salem) about the theology, history and social structures of the Moravian Church with the course, “Moravian Experience.” When MTS delivered video conferenced classes to students in Winston-Salem from 2000-2003, Riddick served as the Technology Specialist for the Seminary. From 1990-1996 Riddick served as the Director of College Age Ministry in the Southern Province of the Moravian Church.
His experience as a congregational pastor, teacher and academician combine gifts that uniquely suit Riddick to this faculty position that shapes and prepares individuals for leadership in ministry. When asked what he looks forward to most in this new role, Weber stated “I am looking forward to serving Moravian Seminary and the Moravian Church through a called position where I can be a teacher using my pastoral gifts. I believe this gives me an opportunity to use my spiritual gifts in the proper order.”
We welcome Riddick to the Moravian Seminary community and look forward to his teaching Congregational Leadership and Preparing Laity for Discipleship this coming spring semester. |
