Moravian Seminary Chapel Service Celebrates Full Communion with Episcopal Church In America

Moravian Theological Seminary celebrated the decisions of the Northern and Southern Provinces of the Moravian Church to join in full communion with the Episcopal Church through a chapel service. The Northern Province voted to bring their relationship with the Episcopal Church into a relationship of full communion on June 18th at their Synod meeting, followed by the same decision from the Southern Province Synod on September 11th.

The celebratory service was held on September 21st and focused on the Episcopalian lessons appointed for use on the Feast of St. Matthew, apostle and evangelist. The homily discussed the similarities and differences between Moravian and Episcopal worship and polity and was received with warm chuckles throughout those in attendance as each denomination brought forth bits of humor in the comparison.

The service was presided over by the Rev. Laura Thomas Howell, Obl.S.B., from Trinity Episcopal Church in Bethlehem. The Rev. Canon Maria Tjeltveit greeted the congregation, Rev. Canon Clifford B. Carr lead the litany prayers for mission, and Chaplain Rev. Hopeton Clennon provided introductions and joint benediction.
