Retiring professor of pastoral theology, Glenn Asquith, was honored by his students, graduates, counseling professionals, and Seminary colleagues at a reception recognizing his 31 years of teaching on April 28th. Invitees were asked to send notes of appreciation or fond memories for inclusion in a Memory Book organized by Dean's Office staff, Claudia Zile and Verdi Quinn. The response was overwhelming and filled a 60-page bound book. In addition to the Memory Book, Glenn received other gifts and expressions of deep appreciation for his devotion to his students and teaching at Moravian since 1978.
During his 31 year tenure Dr. Asquith shepherded and shaped the Master of Arts in Pastoral Counseling program from its beginning in the early 1980s, a program that has enriched the vitality of the Seminary’s life, increased the diversity of perspectives in the classroom, and ministered to countless lives through the graduates of the Seminary. He was also instrumental in developing two dual degree programs with Marywood University in Scranton—the MDiv-MSW and the MAPC-MSW. Most recently, his leadership supported the development of the new graduate certificate in Formative Spirituality. His legacy to the field of Pastoral Counseling includes a four year term as co-editor of The Journal of Pastoral Theology and serving as one of the editors of a standard reference in the field, The Dictionary of Pastoral Care and Counseling.
In what several considered his final benediction at Moravian, Dr. Asquith gave the Commencement Address at the 2009 graduation ceremony. The full text of his presentation, entitled “Our Faith Narrative,” can be found here.
